Pearl cockatiel

A big part of the fun for cockatiel breeders is being able to breed the different types of mutations that have been identified over the years, with some mutations being more valuable than others. Mutations can be

  1. Regular gray
  2. Cinnamon
  3. Lutinos
  4. Pearls
  5. White face
  6. Silver
  7. Albinos

The pearl Cockatiel

The pearl Cockatiel is a color mutation characterized by a unique pattern of white spots on the body, wings and head. These spots are called pearls, which is why they are also called pearl Cockatiels. They may also have bright orange spots on the cheeks and bright yellow coloration on the face.

Pearl Cockatiels have a special color mutation.

Pearl Cockatiels have small spots of yellow or white pigmentation outlined on the feathers of the back and wings. These beautiful spots resemble pearls. They also have a yellow face and orange cheeks. Pearly Cockatiels are often in demand as pets because of their beauty.

White-faced Pearl Cockatiels

Pearl Cockatiels also have several mutations and variations, one of which is the white-faced pearl mutation. White-faced Pearl cockatiels have a white face. Therefore, they do not have cheek patches but their wings have a pearl pattern on them.

Cockatiel genetics and mutations

There are three different types of genetic mutations.

Sex-linked mutations are

  • Pearl
  • Cinnamon
  • Lutino
  • Yellow face

Recessive mutations are

  • Pied
  • White face
  • Fallow
  • Silver and yellow-cheeked

The cinnamon pearl Cockatiel is a double mutation with the coloration of a cinnamon Cockatiel and the feather patterns of a pearl. There is also a cinnamon color Pearl mutations and a pearl lutino color mutations.

Pearl Cockatiels are typically yellow or white in color, but have noticeable gray edges to their plumage. They are beautiful looking birds and I personally have a pearl Cockatiel myself.
